In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Process
Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration(PESA) & Testicular Epididymal Sperm Extraction (TESE)
For males who are unable to produce sperm during ejaculation or are infertile due to blocked or damaged sperm ducts, natural conception may not be possible.
However, with advancements in medical technology, these men can now father a child through sperm retrieval directly from the testicles, known as PESA or TESE.

Tips for Preparing (Male)
- If you are aware of any fertility issues, please inform your doctor immediately before your wife begins ovarian stimulation.
- The doctor will schedule a procedure to extract sperm directly from your testicles (PESA/TESE) on the same day as your wife’s egg retrieval (OPU).
- The sperm extraction procedure (PESA/TESE) will be performed under anesthesia.
- After the sperm extraction procedure, you will need to rest at the clinic for approximately 1-2 hours before being discharged.
- The extracted sperm will be processed in the laboratory and used for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) with your wife’s eggs.
PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
This procedure involves inserting a needle through the skin of the scrotum into the epididymis to aspirate sperm. The incision is very small, almost imperceptible. However, this method is only suitable for men who still have intact sperm ducts.
TESE (Testicular Epididymal Sperm Extraction)
Testicular Epididymal Sperm Extraction (TESE) is a surgical procedure involving the removal of a small piece of testicular tissue, which is then examined in a laboratory to extract sperm.
Limitations of PESA and TESE
Following sperm collection using this technique “In vitro fertilization using ICSI methods (IVF/ICSI)” is the reproductive technology required to produce sperm, and it is only necessary for future treatment.
